Visiting the Gym
Instead of working out at my gym today, I decided to just sit and watch the different types of people that came in to workout during the hour I was sitting there. It was interesting to me to see so many overweight and obese people that are trying to change their bad habits and make themselves healthier. While I was sitting near the weight machines obviously I could smell the sweaty stench of bodies that were working out. Everyone around me was dripping with sweat, their faces were red, and their shirts were drenched. At one moment I heard a loud groan when an overweight man was trying to lift weight that he couldn’t quite lift by himself. He was gritting his teeth and spit came out of his mouth when he was trying to lift it about his chest. He had a puddle of sweat on the floor under his head that just kept growing while he was lying there.
I noticed that most of the people who were overweight either had a personal trainer with them, or they were just working out alone. Hardly any of them seemed as if they were working out with friends or family, which I think could be because of their insecurities or lack of confidence. The environment appeared to be very motivated and inspirational because there were so many of the same people trying to get the same results. Many of them had their own headphones blasting in their ears with pump up music, or had their eyes glued to the local news station or new television shows. I didn’t notice much talking and communication going on at the gym, rather just listening to their own soundless thoughts in their heads.
I really enjoyed observing and meandering through the gym because I was able to notice things that I usually don’t while I am working. One part that I really enjoyed was watching a lady who was a little overweight finally be able to do a half pull up. She was filled with joy, and her face lit up so bright, you could tell that she had been working at that goal for a while. I loved watching her and several others slowly start to build their confidence and feel good about themselves. It is inspiring to me that so many people are trying to better themselves and change their life around by exercising and making it a priority in their life.
