While attending Salt Lake Community College full time and working part time I don't have a great amount of time outside of school and work. I am currently a phlebotomist at Jordan Valley Medical Hospital and everyday I work I am learning something new. I am working 20-30 hours a week at the hospital and in different medical labs. I truly love my job for many reasons; I feel like it challenges me everyday, I love spending my time with the patients and I am constantly learning new things.
When I am not working, attending my classes, or studying, there is nothing else I would rather do than spend time with my wife and my family. Whether it be going on a mini vacation, visiting both of our families, or just sitting in doors watching movies and playing board games all night, we all enjoy each others company and have a great time. I am the the youngest of four children, and have learned so much from growing up with my siblings. They have all taught me something in my life that has gotten me where I am today. I love my family more than anything, and truly enjoy spending my free time with them. My wife and I are always going on a new adventure and discovering a new hobby we both are fond of. We both enjoy the outdoors and agree that there is no better place to be. We love snowboarding, rock-climbing, hiking, scuba diving, fishing, canyoneering, mountain biking, hunting, fishing, making jewelry, woodworking, swimming, etc. Whenever we have time together we make the most of it! I love being involved in the outdoors and having hobbies because there is always so much you can learn about yourself in these elements. I just recently learned how to lead climb with my rock climbing gear. I never thought that I was going to be able to even rock climb because of my fear of heights, but because of my belief in myself I was able to conquer this talent that I never knew I had, and I was able to learn so much about myself. Whenever I get the opportunity to volunteer, I always make sure that I can set time away to do something good for the community. From 2013 until now I have over 150 hours of volunteer work completed. Some of the main work that I have done are working with the Utah Food Bank, cleaning neighbors yards, working as a volunteer with the special needs, making backpacks and school bags for different countries in Africa, and helping several scouting projects in the community. One of my favorite volunteer experiences was when I had the opportunity to go to New York when hurricane Irene and Sandy both hit the east coast; I was able to help them recover and clean up every day for about six weeks. This was an amazing time that I was able to help hundreds of families by doing anything that I could to help. I was able to assist them in removing furniture and appliances to removing drywall, carpet and tile, and organizing their belongings. I posted two pictures below, one is from a drive way that had about four feet of sand that was washed up and the second is a building that burned down because of an electric fire during the hurricane. I hope that everyone is able to experience volunteer work because you can gain valuable life experiences and can truly make a difference in many lives. |
