Strategies
After reading these few pages on clustering, I realized that I use this strategy often. Clustering is a way that helps me put all of my ideas in an understandable form. It helps me explore all the ideas that I have right when they occur, and then I can start organizing simple ideas that can then transfer into a well-structured essay. When using clustering for my personal life, I think of some words that deal with my past, present and future. Some words that would describe me are; tall, blonde, baseball, nursing, rock-climbing, cars, family, mistakes, opportunities, honesty etc. I think it is important to “cluster” or reflect about yourself and your life often. It shows your growth from where you have been and where you are today. It helps one realize that there is potential in their life and that desired changes are obtainable. In my academic persona, some words that would be in my cluster would be; busy, learning, procrastination, joy, understanding, growth, opportunities, open doors, etc. Professionally words such as, reliable, honest, on-time, genuine, money, nursing, satisfaction, career etc. come to mind.
Thinking on a personal level, the things that are most important to me are my family and friends. The relationships that I am able to make help influence the person I am. Each person in my life has had an impact on me in one-way or another. For instance, my parents have taught me how to work hard, to be honest, and to always look out for one another. These are lessons that have shaped who I am and will continue to shape myself as a person throughout my life. I had an experience when I was about six years old when I was shopping with my mom. I found a ring on the floor, and I really liked it, so I took it. When my mom found out she asked where I got the ring and when I told her it was from the store, she took me back and made me apologize for taking it. She then bought the ring, but made me earn it by doing chores around the house. This simple experience taught me the importance of honesty, and hard work. When I like or want something, I am now able to work hard to earn it. This experience has affected my daily life and now has influenced my career path. I hope that I will be able to help those around me when needed, just as I have received help when I needed it.
